Willi Menzel

Willi Menzel died on 22 February 2004. Born in Cologne in 1908, he started learning aikido at our school at the grand old age of 78 and continued to practise regularly once or twice a week for another 16 years. For reasons of age, he had to stop training shortly after his 94th birthday.

In grateful memory

Willi Menzel was an open, radiant being. For all the years I was privileged to know him, I admired his zest for life, his boundless warmth and his pluck in trying out new things while at the same time preserving the old. I will always have grateful memories of Willi Menzel.
