TAIKO IN THE DOJO 2023

3rd ADVENT at THREE

with RANVITA HAHN, percussionist and founder of Rhythmuswelten in Hürth + ensemble - Alexandra Wünsch, Marit Timmermann, Bettina Grossberg, Vera Schimetzek, Dr Barbara Burghardt.

Taiko, 太鼓 "thick drum", came to Japan from China via Korea and was initially played in Zen monasteries. Nowadays, the barrel-shaped taiko is mainly played at shrine festivals, matsuri 祭り, during ceremonial processions.

A short, powerful ceremony. Duration approx. 20 minutes. Followed by time to relax.

All interested parties are welcome. Admission free.

Hear and feel how a taiko sounds in the dojo - a former church. A bass-filled performance. From a simple pulse that leads the listener inside to very expressive, powerful rhythms.
